Vancouver

While we were in Seattle, we took a side trip to Vancouver, Canada.   We’ve heard really amazing reviews   from other people, but haven’t been ourselves until now.    It was an interesting trip, and really glad we went but Seattle was definitely more appealing to us.   In Vancouver, we stayed at Holiday Inn about 20 minutes outside of city center; it had an inside pool, Subway right outside and free breakfast – what more can you ask for :)   We tried to do some Vancouver specific sightseeing and opted to skip “old dusty church” but visited the Granville Island which is a huge public market and Stanley Park where boys got to run on the rocky beach and throw sticks in the water amongst other things. Vancouver view from Granville Island Stanley Island, Vancouver behind Team work! Always in action  The one thing that was absolutely horrible and the waste of money was the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Classical Chinese Garten....

Seattle trip

We are back from spending 5 days in Iceland and 9 days in Seattle, USA with a little detour to Vancouver, Canada; but as I briefly mentioned first week was a bit challenging.  Nothing we are not used to anyway. Second week was a bit a challenging since Chris and I got a cold, and Anton hasn’t slept through the night.   The flight back was a bit long with our first leg from Seattle to Reykjavik being a little over 7 hours, then 45 minute connection, and then another 3 hour flight to Frankfurt.  Anton caused the most suffering to people around him, and Ilya suffered the most.  Ilya just wanted to lie down and sleep comfortably which was obviously not an option, Anton slept for about 4 hours but then he was just LOUD.  Cartoons, candy, drawing, etc. can only entertain this super active child for so long. Seattle was awesome, we loved seeing family and watching Andrei play computer games with his cousin was really cool.  It's been said a number o...

Back to Deutschland

We came back to Germany about 5 days ago and adjustment back has been a bit difficult with a 9 hour difference and Anton getting sick (trouble breathing in the middle of the night, but fine now) means that sleep is really an elusive "lady." Here are some pictures from our trip and hopefully I'll be more "with it" early next week and post more.

Spring break in Iceland

We've been in Iceland for 3 days now and have had some really amazing adventures but also learned some random tidbits about the country.  We arrived on Saturday before Easter, never really thinking much about the whole Easter aspect.  Well, a lot of the country (and some of the touristy stuff) shuts down for 5 days from Thursday to Monday to celebrate the end of winter.  Just like in Pennsylvania, the alcohol stores are owned by the state and thus were closed.  Yes, after a flight with Anton a glass of wine (or two) is very much needed :) The  sun rises around 7AM and it's still light outside at 8PM - personally I love it.  On other hand, we had about 4 inches of snow on our car this morning, March 29! A lot of things are smallish in Iceland so we've seen a lot of stuff so far - National Museum of Iceland, toured old Reykjavik, did the Golden Circle, went to Whale Museum, Maritime museum and Volcano House.  The boys were absolutely freezing yesterd...

Ilya is 7!

Chris thought that maybe it was Christmas somehow all over again but no, it's just Ilya's birthday!  It fell on Thursday which was the last day before the Easter break in school so I made a cake (keks really) and Chris made chocolate ganache.  Must of been good because nothing came back home!  We also all went out to a teppanyaki restaurant which was great.  Not much else because we left for Iceland and then America about 48 hours after the celebrations began. 6:45 in the morning! Brothers had to join in on the action Loves his shirts
